This little diva proved that you can rock your natural hair at any age. I love to watch her on Jessie just to see what style she can bring next. =) . I have a little sister her age with natural hair as well and I look to Skai for all the youthful styles so I can try them out on my lil sis.

Cleaning Hair Brushes & Combs

Hygiene is always very important. Washing your hair is important but keeping your tools clean is a must. Brushes and combs tend to trap a lot of dust, germs, oil, old hair and moisture. It is important to clean brushes at least once a week and it will take nor more than five minutes.

Remove all the hair with your fingers or a toothpick from the combs and use combs to clean between bristles. Soak in warm water and soap to remove excess oils etc. and set aside to dry. You may also try soaking in baking soda and vinegar for the stray hair and dirt to come loose.

Protein Hair Treatment

Hair is made up of protein. Moisture is being striped from your hair on a daily basis; the external elements, heat, styling etc. so this is one of the best ways to put protein back into your hair. Hair treatments can be very pricey, and when your on a budget it's also important to have your hair fit into it. Luckily there are a lot of protein treatments that can be concocted at home and are very cost effective, that bring long lasting results with regular use.

Protein treatment for damaged hair:

Popular Egg Mask
Eggs are great protein for hair, the yolk is rich in fat that can effectively moisturize hair, the egg white cleanses    the scalp and hair.

Ingredients:
1 egg (depending on length and thickness of hair)
1 lemon
1 shower cap

Method:
Break egg into a bowl and beat until frothy and apply to scalp.
Massage into scalp and ensure hair is fully covered with shower cap.
Leave for 30 minutes. Rinse with cold water (not hot cause this can cook the eggs and leave particles in your hair) and shampoo. Use the juice to remove the unpleasant smell from the egg.

Mayonnaise & Avocado Special Conditioner

Mayonnaise may not be good for your health but its definitely good for your hair, the high-fat of avocados moistens hair and prevents breakage.

Ingredients:
2 tbsp mayonnaise
1/2 avocado
1 bowl

Method:

Mix the mayonnaise with the crushed avocado in a bowl until mixture is smooth. Evenly apply to hair especially ends and style as usual.

My Natural Hair Journey

I never really been a fan of blogs but ever since I began my natural journey in January of this year I have taken a liking to it. I have been able to get some really good advice from very popular blogs and also find what works for me at this point in the process.

I have tried quite a number of products in the last few months, but african pride products really seem to agree with me for the while. I am really excited to show you guys my progress and excited for December when I can cut the last inch of relaxed hair from my head. =)

It's MY HAIR & I don't wanna change it....

It's my hair and I'm proud that its mine!

Recently a co-worker of mine was look at my blog pics of women with natural African hair styles and while I was feeling so proud and loving the hair, she thought it was a too untidy. Sorry sister but that's the way God made me and I am happy. Often we relax our hair, braid it, weave it so that society doesn't have to live with seeing our hair, well those days are long gone cause I love my hair.

I regret putting chemicals in it in the first place. My hair is curly, thick, long and beautiful. Being proud of who you are also means being proud of what you look like.

I am proud of all the women and girls that didn't jump on the band wagon but dared to be themselves with out fear. Love your hair, it's royalty...
