As I am Coconut Cowash

This is a Co-Washing conditioner I definitely want to try! I haven't seen it on the cosmetic shelves, I may have to order it online but I would really like to give it a go. Has any one with type 4A hair following this blog tried it? Lemme know what you guys think about it!

TRESemme Flawless Curls Conditioner

I use TRESemme Flawless Curls Conditioner to co-wash my hair and also a a leave in conditioner. The results are great. I don't have too much frizz and my hair is a lot easier to handle. The conditioner helps my hair stay hydrated and soft. Presently its the only conditioner I use and my hair id growing really nicely. I have been looking around for TRESemme Naturals but haven't had any luck in finding that product but my aim is to keep looking, I have been hearing positive things.

My hair is about 5 inches now and I do a lot of wash and gos for the time being, I'm trying not to manipulate it too much. Maybe when it gets a little longer i'll try a twist out style.ღ Pretty Impression

Product Review: Texture My Way

Deep conditioning hair on a regular basis is essential for natural hair. It contributes to the overall health and manageability of the hair. I decided to give Texture Control Moisture Intensive Dual Conditioner.
This protein- rich formula is enhanced with Shea Butter and Extra Virgin Olive Oil claims to soften, strengthen, shine and revitalize lack-luster, hard-to-manage hair textures.

After using this product, my hair felt hydrated and very soft. I aperciate the fact that it doesn't include any sulfates, parabens, petrolatum or mineral oil; ingredients that are known for drying out curly, coily and wavy hair.

This product is water based and worked well as a leave in as well. It had a really great smell. I mixed the product with another natural hair product and it immediately caused white balls of dust so mixing it is not recommended. I had to wash the stuff out my hair and re-apply it alone. Bout other than that its pretty nice. It cost me $40 TT for a jar not too expensive at all.

The ingredients include:-
Ingredients: Water, Glycerine, PPG-1 trideceth-6, Diectyldimonium Chloride, Shea butter fruit, Olive fruit oil, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Carrot seed oil, Panthenol, Soluble Collagen, Tocopherol, Nettle Extract, Rosemary leaf extract, horsetyail extract, Safflower seed oil, Polyquatenium-37, Propylene Glycol, Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, Lanolin Oil, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetyl Alcohol, Cetearyl alcohol, parfum, d-Limonene, Propylene glycol, Phenyl Trimethicone, Dimethicone PEG-8 Laurate, Benzyl benzoate, Linalool, 5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one, 2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one, Hydrolized Quinoa, cl 42090(Blue 1), cl 16035 (Red 40)

Product Review 2 - Shea Butter Miracle Moisturizer & Beautiful Textures Curl Definer Styling Custard

So Yesterday I applied these two products to my wet hair and I let it air dry for about 4 hours and I covered my hair with a wave cap. When I got up this morning I unwrapped my hair and reapplied a little of both products and woke my curls right back up!

I was a little worried at first but my hair turned ot pretty amazing. I really liked that my hair wasn't dry at all. The custard left a little crunch but I can live with that. I will be using these for a while until I find something that can define my curls a little more. I hope this has helped you. If you have any questions for me, feel free to ask.

My Hair Journey

Box Braids Vs Senegalese

Vacation is almost here once again and I'm quite excited. But I have one major problem what am I gonna do with my hair? I have been transitioning for almost 7 months now, but I chose to keep the relaxed hair and let it grow out. I  must say it is very difficult, the difference in textures, breakage etc. has caused some thoughts of relaxing the hair to take over. I have reached that phase where you begin to question your self, Why am I doing this again? Geeze! but I must be strong for the good of my hair.

I have been thinking about getting it braided but which is better box braids or senegalese? I really love how they both look but I'm leaning towards the senegalese. Braiding my hair will give it a rest as well as comfort me in my time of trouble. Plus it would be great to get up and go once more. I cant wait until I the last bit of relaxer out and start styling my curls. #anticipating. Jncz.

Cleaning Hair Brushes & Combs

Hygiene is always very important. Washing your hair is important but keeping your tools clean is a must. Brushes and combs tend to trap a lot of dust, germs, oil, old hair and moisture. It is important to clean brushes at least once a week and it will take nor more than five minutes.

Remove all the hair with your fingers or a toothpick from the combs and use combs to clean between bristles. Soak in warm water and soap to remove excess oils etc. and set aside to dry. You may also try soaking in baking soda and vinegar for the stray hair and dirt to come loose.

Protein Hair Treatment

Hair is made up of protein. Moisture is being striped from your hair on a daily basis; the external elements, heat, styling etc. so this is one of the best ways to put protein back into your hair. Hair treatments can be very pricey, and when your on a budget it's also important to have your hair fit into it. Luckily there are a lot of protein treatments that can be concocted at home and are very cost effective, that bring long lasting results with regular use.

Protein treatment for damaged hair:

Popular Egg Mask
Eggs are great protein for hair, the yolk is rich in fat that can effectively moisturize hair, the egg white cleanses    the scalp and hair.

Ingredients:
1 egg (depending on length and thickness of hair)
1 lemon
1 shower cap

Method:
Break egg into a bowl and beat until frothy and apply to scalp.
Massage into scalp and ensure hair is fully covered with shower cap.
Leave for 30 minutes. Rinse with cold water (not hot cause this can cook the eggs and leave particles in your hair) and shampoo. Use the juice to remove the unpleasant smell from the egg.

Mayonnaise & Avocado Special Conditioner

Mayonnaise may not be good for your health but its definitely good for your hair, the high-fat of avocados moistens hair and prevents breakage.

Ingredients:
2 tbsp mayonnaise
1/2 avocado
1 bowl

Method:

Mix the mayonnaise with the crushed avocado in a bowl until mixture is smooth. Evenly apply to hair especially ends and style as usual.

My Natural Hair Journey

I never really been a fan of blogs but ever since I began my natural journey in January of this year I have taken a liking to it. I have been able to get some really good advice from very popular blogs and also find what works for me at this point in the process.

I have tried quite a number of products in the last few months, but african pride products really seem to agree with me for the while. I am really excited to show you guys my progress and excited for December when I can cut the last inch of relaxed hair from my head. =)

It's MY HAIR & I don't wanna change it....

It's my hair and I'm proud that its mine!

Recently a co-worker of mine was look at my blog pics of women with natural African hair styles and while I was feeling so proud and loving the hair, she thought it was a too untidy. Sorry sister but that's the way God made me and I am happy. Often we relax our hair, braid it, weave it so that society doesn't have to live with seeing our hair, well those days are long gone cause I love my hair.

I regret putting chemicals in it in the first place. My hair is curly, thick, long and beautiful. Being proud of who you are also means being proud of what you look like.

I am proud of all the women and girls that didn't jump on the band wagon but dared to be themselves with out fear. Love your hair, it's royalty...

Is Aloe Vera good for my hair?

Aloe Vera Have been noted to be very beneficial for quite a number of things skin, body and of course your hair. I'm sure you would have noticed that this ingredient is in your shampoos and conditioners, skin lotions, shower gels etc. Has it ever crossed your mind to ask why? Well, I have listed some thing that Aloe Vera have been known for promoting when it comes to beautiful hair.

What is Aloe Vera?

This have often been referred to as a wonder-plant.

The Aloe leaf structure is made up of four layers:
Rind - the outer protective layer;
Sap - a layer of bitter fluid which helps protect the plant from animals;
Mucilage Gel - the inner part of the leaf that is filleted out to make Aloe Vera gel.

  1. It Promotes Hair Growth  - According to the University of Hawaii researchers, Aloe Vera has been a hair loss remedy for as far back as the ancient Egyptians. This is because Aloe Vera is said to contain an enzyme that is directly responsible for hair growth. These proteolitic enzymes help remove dead skin on the scalp that may be clogging the follicle and preventing proper penetration of nutrients in the hair.
  2. Relieves Itching ans Dryness
  3. Reduces Dandruff
  4. Great conditioning Agent
  5. Helps Hair retain Water & Moisture
  6. Adds Strength and Luster To Hair

Why is my hair taking so long to Grow?

Why is my hair taking so long to Grow?
Even though I don’t have this problem, this is a hair blog and I conducted some research that I hope is helpful to those that seem to be in this dilemma. No matter where I looked, a lot of the reasons we very similar in nature, so I put together the main points.
The stunt of hair growth can be extremely frustrating for those individuals who wish to have that extra length for styling etc. First of all often times it’s not that your hair isn’t growing but rather it’s breaking off very quickly. Hair usually grows about half an inch a month, so, if your hair breaks off an inch a month, then it’s obvious that you won’t see the progress.  Hair breakage can be caused by excessive exposure to heat, yes flat ironing your hair morning and evening will cause it to be extra brittle! Using the hair dryer without the proper serum, elastic bands, and I know you may not want to hear this but brushing your hair too often can also lead to breakage.
Next on the list is split ends. We all suffer from this time to time, but there is a simple remedy, trim your hair, and plead don’t trim every 2 weeks or else you will never be able to see your new growth.
Finally Diet is very important. What does your diet have to do with your hair you may ask? Everything. Low ferritin levels can affect hair growth especially in women.  Hair receives nutrients via the blood so watch what you eat and tou will see progress. Just folly these very simple steps and you will be on your way to acheiving lenghty lengths.

I Love My Hair

Even though it has been a mere 4 months since I decided to transition, I love my hair texture and I only wish I had done this sooner. My hair is really curly at the roots, even though its straight at the ends, I can't wait for it to grow out. So today I'm trimming my ends to prevent too much breakage and to get my hair back to its luscious texture.

Ten Things Tranisitioners Should know

Ten Things Tranisitioners Should know

A person’s Natural or unadorned hair require a different approach to care and treatment, that differs from relaxed hair care. This is one of the main things that are usually over looked and the hair usually doesn’t look its best. Taking great care of your hair can allow u to avoid breakage, increase your hair strength and growth and most of all avoid those bad hair days.

Black hair is very different from other hair types, it’s usually dry, or extremely curly any usually thick and full.

     1.     As your hair grows out study your curl pattern.
     2.     Please don’t transition because your friend is doing it. Make up your mind to get your natural hair back on your own.

     3.     Yes you can wear your hair to work; braiding it is a good start till you have the length you want if you’re not as bold as some people.
     4.     Moisturize on a regular basis. Black hair is naturally dry so daily moisturized hair will thrive better against breakage.

     5.     Because you have to deal with two different textures of hair when you are transitioning and decide to let your hair grow out rather than take the bid chop, this different can cause major breakage if you are not careful. Try to wear your hair in simple styles like buns or twists to lower the risk of breakage.
     6.     Use rollers on the ends of your hair to give it a more consistent look.

     7.     When combing your hair, GENTLY comb it hair from the ends to the root.
     8.     Stay away from heat as much as you can. Using hot combs or flat irons can cause permanent straightening of the hair so please don’t defeat the purpose.
     9.     Texturising your hair is also negative, what’s the point! Little chemicals or more it’s still chemicals.
    10.   Transitioning requires patience and may take up to a year so take your time, learn your hair, and love your curls.
