Make up Trend: Contouring and Highlights

Thanks to YouTube, social media and ‘selfies’, people are a lot more aware of how they look and society’s view on beauty. Experts have now made pro techniques more available to everyone, which means we can be photo-ready at every opportunity. The secret is out and no longer exclusive to the rich and famous. It is important though to do proper research; because if you don’t things can go from pretty to pretty scary in a flash.

Below are some of the tools that you would need when attempting this technique, remember to start with a clean face.

Contouring, a technique previously reserved for runway models and fancy photo shoots, is now becoming part of daily routines. What is it  really? "Contouring is giving shape to an area of the face and enhancing the facial structure through makeup," says Beau Nelson, Kristen Stewart's longtime makeup artist. "It's not supposed to be noticeable—just a subtle definition." In other words It's all about the artistry—and illusion! The shape of your face is an important factor if this illusion is to be achieved.

Typically for contouring you want a dark brown that is matte. a powder is recommended so it blends easily, but some people do use cream or foundation for contour. The goal with the dark contouring colors is to make those areas appear smaller. The darkness draws less attention to those spots, for example if you have a larger forehead you would want to darken near the hair line with a dark powder and around the temples. This drawers people’s attention away from those areas and has them focus on the areas that are highlighted in the center.
